ETI Base Code Essentials for Suppliers

Turn Ethical Sourcing Standards Into Everyday Practice

The ETI Base Code forms the foundation of many ethical sourcing programs used by retailers, customers and supply chains worldwide. Its principles can feel abstract until you see what they look like in a real workplace, so this course breaks down each one and translates it into practical actions for Australian and New Zealand sites.

You’ll learn how ETI expectations connect with local law, SMETA and retailer audit requirements, where Australian and New Zealand sites commonly fall short, and what good practice looks like on site. The result is a clearer path to strengthening your policies, processes and workplace evidence before your next audit.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the ETI Base Code?
The ETI Base Code is a code of labour practice developed by the Ethical Trading Initiative. How does the ETI Base Code relate to SMETA?
SMETA is the social audit methodology created by Sedex, and it assesses sites against the ETI Base Code and local law. Understanding the Base Code helps you prepare for what a SMETA audit will look for.
