Training Code of Practice

AUS-QUAL Training Services is the training arm of AUS-MEAT Limited (ABN 44 082 528 881), operating as a Registered Training Organisation under RTO Number 7085. This Code of Practice describes the standards we hold ourselves to in delivering nationally recognised training and assessment.

1. About AUS-QUAL

AUS-QUAL Training Services is a division of AUS-MEAT Limited, an industry-owned company operating as a joint venture between Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) and the Australian Meat Processor Corporation (AMPC). AUS-QUAL operates under the AUS-MEAT Quality Management System, which is certified to ISO 9001:2015.

2. Confidentiality

AUS-QUAL is committed to maintaining the highest degree of integrity in all our dealings with past and present participants and clients. All personal information we receive in the course of business is kept confidential at all times.

3. Duty of Care

AUS-QUAL ensures that all training is conducted in a safe environment and in a safe manner. We work in conjunction with host businesses and venues to take reasonable care in every training session.

4. Professional Conduct

AUS-QUAL holds the status of a Registered Training Organisation (RTO 7085) delivering nationally recognised training in the Australian VET sector. We participate in all Quality Management processes required of an RTO by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA), integrating the Standards for RTOs 2015 with disciplined business practices to ensure high-quality training and assessment.

5. Integrity and Ethics

AUS-QUAL markets our vocational education and training products with integrity, accuracy and professionalism. We avoid vague or ambiguous statements and do not draw false or misleading comparisons with any other training organisation or training product.

6. Flexible Delivery

AUS-QUAL maintains detailed Training and Assessment strategies for every course delivered. Our teaching methodologies allow flexibility to adjust delivery to student learning needs. Training is predominantly delivered in a practical environment and includes written, auditory and kinesthetic learning through hands-on activity.

The language, literacy and numeracy (LL&N) needs of students are important to us. We collect information about clients entering a course to identify any LL&N issues as early as possible, and trainers and assessors continually monitor student progress to identify issues should they arise. Where issues are identified, the trainer or assessor discusses them with the student and negotiates allowable adjustments to the training or assessment process.

Students have access to an online learning portal that provides learning resources and tools to assist them in achieving competency in their chosen course. AUS-QUAL has procedures in place to support all learners — students may access support services directly through their trainer, the AUS-QUAL administration team or the AUS-QUAL Training Manager.

AUS-QUAL works with students’ employers to establish effective training plans and appropriate work release for formal training. We understand that priorities sometimes shift, and we adjust training plans where needed so that no student is disadvantaged.

Due to the high-risk nature of work in meat processing environments, AUS-QUAL will not accept enrolments from a person under the age of 18 in any AMP Certificate-level qualification.

Students who do not demonstrate competency on initial assessment are afforded the opportunity to repeat the assessment after further instruction. Feedback is provided by the trainer or assessor prior to re-assessment.

7. Training Assessment and Requirements

AUS-QUAL ensures all resources meet the requirements of the relevant endorsed training packages or accredited VET courses for the delivery, assessment and issuing of qualifications.

Training and assessment strategies are developed through extensive consultation with leading industry bodies, subject-matter experts, and qualified trainers and assessors. Our trainers and assessors demonstrate current industry skills directly relevant to the training and assessment being undertaken, and hold the training and assessment competencies prescribed by the Standards for RTOs 2015.

8. Professional Development

AUS-QUAL maintains a professional development program for all employees and trainers. The program requires every trainer to maintain currency in the fields of vocational training, learning and assessment — including competency-based training and assessment.

Our certification under ISO 9001:2015 requires staff to maintain professional development in diversity and inclusion. Training staff maintain a professional development log which is reviewed annually through internal and third-party audits. Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) means achieving a workplace that is genuinely and sustainably equitable for all, regardless of gender, age, disability status, sexual orientation, gender identity, ethnicity, or religious or cultural background.

All professional development undertaken by our staff is fully funded by AUS-QUAL, and staff are provided with appropriate time and work release to meet their professional development requirements.

9. Access and Equity

AUS-QUAL ensures the principles of equity are incorporated into all training programs. Every learner who meets the entry requirements (where applicable) prescribed by the relevant training package or funding body will be accepted into the program.

We are committed to all learners having access to programs irrespective of disability, gender, culture, linguistic background, race, location or socio-economic background. Where a disability is identified, AUS-QUAL has policies in place so that no student is disadvantaged. Students are supported to disclose any disability that may affect their ability to be successful in their chosen course.

Students identified as having a disability are provided with an access plan (where required) outlining the support available to them. Our trainers are kept up to date with the requirements of the Disability Standards for Education and how to create an access plan. All AUS-QUAL trainers hold a current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and are well versed in reasonable adjustment in the delivery of assessments.

AUS-QUAL works with employers to identify if a student may have a disability and, in partnership with the employer, develops a suitable plan to support the student through the training and assessment process.

10. Individual Support

Key AUS-QUAL staff involved in training can provide informal counselling and support to students. If a student is identified as requiring additional support, they are referred to the appropriate body. Staff are kept up to date with the support services available and share information about those services with students. Where a student is experiencing personal difficulties affecting their ability to complete course requirements, we review on a case-by-case basis and provide extensions or re-sit opportunities as required.

11. Recognition of Prior Learning

As a Registered Training Organisation, AUS-QUAL operates within the Standards for RTOs, including a commitment to recognise training qualifications issued by other Registered Training Organisations. We have a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process and will provide full details on application.

12. Learner’s Rights and Responsibilities

AUS-QUAL is committed to ensuring each learner is in an environment conducive to learning. Any misconduct that, in the opinion of the AUS-QUAL trainer, is disruptive or adversely affects the teaching, the delivery of training, or the concentration of any other learner may result in the participant being required to leave the course for a specified time.

13. Complaints and Appeals

Each complaint received by AUS-QUAL is handled with fair and effective methods. For each appeal, a fair and impartial process is in place to ensure each appeal is assessed on a case-by-case basis. For all complaints and appeals please contact the Certification Manager, AUS-MEAT Limited, on 1800 630 890, or in writing to AUS-MEAT Limited, PO Box 3043, Tingalpa QLD 4173.

14. Legislative Requirements

AUS-QUAL meets all legislative requirements of State and Federal Government. In particular:

  • The Work Health and Safety Act 2011
  • Standards for RTOs 2015
  • Privacy Act 1988

AUS-QUAL training services are conducted under the AUS-MEAT Business Management System, and our trainers and assessors comply with our Terms and Conditions of Employment while performing training and assessment services.

15. Quality Assurance

AUS-QUAL conducts all its operations under the AUS-MEAT internal Quality Management System, which is certified to ISO 9001:2015 by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance Limited and has been certified since 1996. We participate in monitoring and auditing processes to ensure RTO requirements are met and that training continues to be conducted to a high standard.

16. Payment of Fees

AUS-QUAL aims to be flexible in the way our services are charged. We propose training solutions that meet the requirements of our clients and learners while keeping costs to a minimum and incorporating only the costs of the training program. We have a cancellation and refund policy that ensures clients are refunded where required and that cancellations are fair and just in all dealings.

17. Agreement

AUS-QUAL will honour all guarantees outlined in this Code of Practice. We understand that if we do not meet the obligations of this Code or supporting regulatory requirements, our registration as a Registered Training Organisation may be withdrawn.
