Indigenous Cultural Awareness in Supply Chains
Build Respectful, Genuine Relationships Across Your Supply Chain
Genuine, respectful relationships with Indigenous workers, suppliers and business partners strengthen your business and your standing across procurement and government expectations. Indigenous inclusion is an increasingly important part of responsible business practice, procurement and government expectations in Australia and New Zealand.
This course introduces foundational cultural awareness relevant to supply chains, and practical ways to engage with Indigenous businesses and workers respectfully. You’ll learn why Indigenous inclusion matters, how to approach respectful workplace interactions, how to engage with Indigenous-owned suppliers and business partners, and how to avoid tokenism and build genuine relationships. Why This Training Matters in Industry
In Australia, the Commonwealth Indigenous Procurement Policy commenced on 1 July 2015 and uses Commonwealth procurement to drive demand for Indigenous businesses. Under the policy, an Indigenous business is one that is at least 50% owned by Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. In New Zealand, the Government Procurement Rules require mandated government agencies to consider broader outcomes, including increased access to procurement for New Zealand businesses such as Māori and Pasifika businesses.
Procurement and government expectations make Indigenous inclusion a practical business matter. Foundational cultural awareness, respectful workplace interactions and genuine relationships are what make that engagement credible rather than tokenistic.
